I’ve just discovered Tompi.
Get this, I actually thought of Rem when i first heard him. Him and Nina simone (THE Nina Simone!). All at once, both names jolted in my mind. A crazy combination, i know and here’s why; He roars out the notes like Rem-Semua-Orang-Tahu does BUT maintains a jazzy sultry tone to it. Ok. Another way of putting it, he’s like the Indo-Male version of Corinne Bailey. Very sarak sarak BANJIR suaranya. I’ve listened to most of the tracks in his album..and so far, its been a smooth, mellow relaxing ride. No doubt the album’s getting an all thumbs up from me.But then again that’s just what I think.
