Sadis

fast forward to 4:32. I love this version of Afghan’s Sadis. Written by Romeo. The same man who sang and wrote one of the (now)evergreen ballad, Bunga Terakhir. Romeo also wrote the song Terima Kasih Cinta that turned Afghan in to a pop sensation. Romeo truly has a knack for heart moving songs.

semoga tuhan membalas semua,
yang terjadi..
kepadaku suatu saat nanti..

hingga kau sadari sesungguhnya
yang kau punya
hanya aku, tempat mu kembali
sebagai cintamu~

im going to spend the next half an hour scouring youtube for more of Afghan’s live performance..and then.. work.

happy sunday everyone.

kiss me.

  5. The Joker’s real identity was revealed in Folie à Deux’s ‘brutal ending’ –
and it’s not who you think.

Identity confusion is the theme throughout the entire film, as the title
suggests, but the ending of the second instalment may leave some fans surprised.

Following on from 2019’s psychological thriller from
director Todd Phillips, Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role
as clown Arthur Fleck who has descended into mental illness.

Folie à Deux begins with Arthur behind bars in Arkham Asylum, waiting to see whether he will be judged sane enough to stand trial for the murders he committed two years prior.

In the meantime he is enjoying his celebrity status with fellow prisoners and even the warders,
one of whom, a sadistic Irishman played by Brendan Gleeson, feeds him
    cigarettes in return for jokes.

Identity confusion is the theme throughout the entire film, as the title
suggests, but the ending of the second instalment may leave some fans surprised

Lady Gaga plays Harleen ‘Lee’ Quinzel, a fellow inmate on her way, fans believe, to becoming
    Joker’s girlfriend Harley Quinn.

The pair hit it off at a music therapy class, and are
soon mutually smitten, but Lee makes it clear that she loves
the dangerously charismatic Joker, ‘clown prince of crime’, not
    the gloomily introspective Arthur.

Eventually, after Arthur’s high-profile TV appearance with a smug interviewer played by Steve Coogan, it is time for the trial, with all of
Gotham gripped by the subject of multiple personality disorder.

His lawyer (Catherine Keener) strives to show that Joke is accused of five murders, rather than Arthur. Lee just as urgently wants him to identify as his demonic alter ego.

In the final scenes, Arthur renounces his Joker alter-ego and
is found guilty of first-degree murder.

As he is being sentenced a car bomb detonates outside the
court, with two people helping Arthur escape, but he
is later caught by the police and taken back to Arkham.

In the Asylum a young patient begins to tell Arthur a joke,
before stabbing him in the stomach and while he bleeds to death, carves a smile into his own face.

It raises questions surrounding the Joker’s true identity, as it would seem he never went on to become the famed villain, instead
he was just the person who inspired the man who eventually became him.

Director Todd, told Entertainment Weekly: ‘When those guards kill that kid in the [hospital] he realises
that dressing up in makeup, putting on this thing, it’s not changing
    anything.

‘In some ways, he’s accepted the fact that he’s always been Arthur
Fleck; he’s never been this thing that’s been put upon him, this idea that Gotham
people put on him, that he represents.

‘He’s an unwitting icon. This thing was placed on him, and he
doesn’t want to live as a fake anymore — he wants to be who he is.’

The movie serves as a follow-up to Phoenix’s 2019 box office hit, which was simply titled
    Joker.

The Todd Phillips-directed musical was released in theatres on October 4, following an October 2 international release.

    journalist live on radio.

The Greens leader has been outed as a member of the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge, an invitation-only
set of catered waiting areas and services handed out by the airline in what
has been called ‘Australia’s most exclusive club’.

Mr Bandt was challenged on Monday by ABC Radio National stand-in host Steve Cannane that
he was ‘enjoying free hospitality from a company that has illegally sacked hundreds of workers’.

Mr Bandt replied: ‘And I’ll declare that and people can make their own judgement about what they
    think about that.’

Cannane was referring to the Federal Court’s ruling that Qantas illegally sacked 1,
700 workers at the start of the Covid pandemic in a case brought by Transport Workers
    Union.

Commenting on the sacking in June of 2020, Mr Bandt called it
a ‘devastating day for thousands of Qantas workers & their families’ in a Facebook post.
‘We’re thinking of you,’ he wrote.

Cannane challenged Mr Bandt further saying: ‘You don’t think you should
be a little purer on this and just not take their (Qantas’s) hospitality?’

Mr Bandt said he always made declarations about matters such
as this and argued that the party’s policies to tax big corporations heavily
show the perks were not impacting the Greens.

How Greens leader Adam Bandt spent thousands on private jet flights while lecturing
    YOU about climate change

Mr Bandt was spotted in September flying business class from
Melbourne to Canberra seated next to Senator Jacqui Lambie.

Albanese government ministers Tim Watts and Catherine
King were on the same flight but were with the masses in economy class.

It has been previously reported that Mr Bandt opts to frequently fly business despite
his party’s core policy of cutting C02 emissions.

Flying business class emits about three times as much carbon as economy class because the seats take
up more room and more of them are empty, according to a World Bank study.

Fellow Greens MP Max Chandler-Mather last year said he had shunned a Chairman’s Lounge membership and refuses to travel business
    class.

Earlier this year Mr Bandt’s flying habits led to controversy.

Mr Bandt’s flying habits have been a previous source of controversy
after it was revealed he frequently opts for business class and has even taken private jets
    to election events

Mr Bandt used two private jets during the 2022 federal election campaign, landing tax payers with the $23,000 bill.

One flight was between Queensland regional centres Townsville and Rockhampton on March
7 but he also boarded a $15,000 private plane along the well-travelled Brisbane to Canberra route to attend his party’s election campaign launch.

Mr Bandt isn’t the only politician in the hot seat with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese being asked if he has included both his son and partner as ‘plus one’ Chairman’s Club members.

He is also being asked about free flight upgrades
including an international one he is alleged to have received from Qantas in new
book The Chairman’s Lounge authored by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston.

The Greens are licking their electoral wounds after the Queensland state poll, where they are battling to
hold onto their two seats after stating they aimed to triple their representation in parliament.

With 72 per cent of the vote counted they appear to have retained the Brisbane seat of Maiwar but suffered a 4.6 per cent swing to the ALP.

However, they remain behind South Brisbane, which has seen a massive 12.4 per cent swing
to Labor with 64 per cent of votes counted.

WHAT IS THE QANTAS CHAIRMAN’S CLUB?

The Qantas Chairman’s Lounge is an invitation-only club approved by the company chairman, with the guest list a closely-guarded secret.

It has been dubbed ‘the most exclusive club in the country’ and comes with a distinct
    black card.

Members include senior-ranking MPs including ministers, state premiers and the Prime Minister, leaders of major unions and sporting groups,
Qantas ambassadors, selected A-list celebrities, major corporate figures and high-profile media personalities.

The clubs can be found in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra,
Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide but are not signed,
you have to know where to look.

Inside you will find expensive wood and brass furnishings, wool carpet and marble flooring all bathed in natural light.

Members enjoy fine à la carte dining with a complimentary premium array of beers, spirits and Australian wines.

Wine bottles are often given as departing gift

Facilities may also include spas, showers and an assortment of books and
    magazines.

Members may bring in two guests at a time.

Lounge attendants personally alert you when your flight is to board and your personal preferences are logged for each flight.
Membership also entitles you to first-class facilities at Qantas partner airlines.

  10. An invitation to lunch at Caviar Kaspia was, once upon a time, an offer you simply didn’t refuse.
Providing, of course, that the bill was on someone else.
Because caviar, smeared on blinis or piled high
on baked potatoes, sure didn’t come cheap. There may have been other things on the menu, but
no one paid them much heed. This was all about lashings of the black
    stuff.

Caviar Kaspia’s signature baked potato and caviar: ‘there are few better dishes on earth…only
the price, at just under £150, is ridiculous’

Caviar Kaspia popped her final tin about two decades back.
And that site, hidden down a smart Mayfair mews, was taken over by Gavin Rankin (who used
to be the boss), and transformed into the brilliant Bellamy’s.
It prospers to this day. Kaspia, on the other hand, went quiet.
Until last year, when she reopened as a members’ club in another Mayfair
backstreet. But a £2,000 a year membership fee proved hard to swallow, meaning the doors were opened
    to the great unwashed.

Which is how we find ourselves sitting in a rather handsome – albeit near empty – dining
room, lusciously lavish, under the stern gaze of a stern painting of a very stern man. The soft, crepuscular gloom is broken up by the glare of table lamps, indecorously bright, while a loud soundtrack
of indolent, indeterminate beats throbs in the background.
The whole place is scented with gilded ennui.

Our fellow diners are two young South Korean women of pale, luminescent beauty, clad in diaphanous
couture. They don’t speak, rather communicate entirely
via camera phone. Pose, click, check, filter, post. Immaculate waiters hover in the shadows.

We sip ice-cold vodka, and eat a £77 caviar and smoked-salmon Kaspia croque monsieur
that tastes far better than it ought to. Next door, a large table fills with a glut of the noisily, glossily confident.

We’re looked after by a wonderful French lady of such effervescent charm and charisma
that had she burst into an impromptu performance of ‘Willkommen’, we would have barely
blinked. Baked potatoes, skin as crisp as parchment,
insides whipped savagely hard with butter and sour cream, are a study
in tuber art. A cool jet-black splodge of oscietra caviar,
gently saline, raises them to the sublime.
Only the price, at just under £150 each, is ridiculous. But there are
few better dishes on earth. I’d eat this every day if I could.
But I can’t. Obviously. That’s the problem with caviar.

    One taste is never enough.

The FBoy Island star, 29, recently opened up about
the launch of her ‘kink kit’ sex toys and admitted that when it
comes to bedroom fun, it’s strictly a two-person affair.

While she does fantasise about having a ménage à trois, Abbie admitted that it’s something she could never actually
    go through with.

‘I have a fantasy about, like, seeing my partner f*** someone
    else,’ she told News Corp.

‘But I think I know in my heart that I don’t actually want to see
it. I just want to talk about it like, that’s something that I find hot.

‘But in reality, would I want to see that? Maybe, probably not.’

Abbie Chatfield has revealed the sex act she refuses to do with partner
    Adam Hyde

While she does fantasise about having a ménage à trois, Abbie
admitted that it’s something she could never actually go through with.
    Pictured with boyfriend Adam Hyde

‘Like, whenever we get to a point where we’re like, “let’s have a threesome!”, I’m
like, “I don’t actually know if I’m gonna want to see that”,’ she continued.

Elsewhere in the discussion, Abbie revealed that her
Peking Duk frontman partner was the perfect ‘product tester’ for the kit.

‘He had feedback about the length of the flogger,’ she said, referring to the kit’s double-ended paddle.

‘It was a little bit too short after using that on me.’

Abbie’s racy admissions come after she recently urged women to withhold sex from their Donald Trump-supporting partners.

In a lengthy Instagram post, in the wake of Donald Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the
US presidential election, the reality star told
women they should refuse to date or have sex which anyone who supports his victory.

Alongside a series of posts from her story, she wrote:
‘IF THEY WANT TO TAKE AWAY REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOMS THEN
DO NOT LET THEM ENTER YOUR BODY.’

‘I’m done with the idea that men who support Trump (or Andrew
Tate) are just ‘lost’ and we should have empathy for them.

They are gleefully posting threats of violence.’

‘I have a fantasy about, like, seeing my partner f*** someone else,’

‘They are happy that women’s rights are going to be

Abbie then told women to not let men with these views ‘near you’
    because they are ‘dangerous’.

‘Ask them about their views! They are dangerous and they don’t deserve your presence, emotional or domestic
labour. If your partner was in support of Trump OR EVEN APATHETIC,
STOP DOING ANYTHING FOR THEM THAT PATRIARCHY EXPECTS OF
YOU!! They are NOT entitled to your body or time.

‘If they see you as a human they wouldn’t need this explained to them.
    DUMP. THEM.’

She also claimed Trump’s presidency ‘will bring more violence towards women as
men do not care about us’.

‘So stop giving them the perks of a relationship with you.
It isn’t your job. Be with a man who can take care of himself, who won’t expect sex and who actually sees you
    as a human being.’

Abbie’s comments echo sentiments from the 4B movement which sprung up in South
    Korea in the mid 2010’s.

The radical feminist movement, calls for proponents to not date, get married, have sex, or have children with men.

Following the US presidential election some American women declared

His biggest box office success was with The Sixth Sense, grossing $672.8 million while working with a
$40 million budget 25 years ago.

To date, the film made $6.6 million on its first day, including an estimated $2.2 million from the Thursday

Once considered ‘ugly’ knitwear we’d only pull out
from the back of our wardrobes as an alternative to a Christmas jumper (especially the
red-nosed reindeer kind à la Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones’s Diary) or for a winter sport holiday (specifically for après-ski), the Fair Isle jumper has now become somewhat of a fashion statement.

The knit is named after the small, eponymous Shetland Island in Scotland and uses a traditional knitting technique
to create those distinctive patterns with multiple colours.
It was brought into vogue by an earlier Prince of Wales
(later Edward VIII) in the 1920s, and has remained a casual wardrobe staple for members of
the Royal Family, including Kate Middleton, whose
jumper collection includes at least three different
    Fair Isle designs.

    Kensington Palace

Another fan of the nostalgic knit is Alexa Chung, who recently layered a Fair Isle vest by Molly Goddard over a light blue button-down in a
snap for Instagram. The It-girl previously also wore a V-neck vest from Cotswolds-based
knitwear brand Cooking Apple, and sported a chunky Fair Isle crewneck with
white, straight-leg jeans, black loafers and an oversized, black leather blazer to ring in the festive season at private members’ club
    in London last year.

A host of designers have dropped Fair Isle-inspired knits for AW24, proving the multicoloured
jumpers have become a timeless investment. If, as in our case, that £1,

The new flick has garnered the lowest CinemaScore

The psychological musical thriller — which has been criticized as

Joaquin reprised his role as the Joker in the sequel,
which had earned him an Oscar for his portrayal in the 2019 film,
while Gaga took on the role of Harleen Lee Quinzel (Harley
    Quinn).

However, Joker: Folie À Deux has been given a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest score for a comic book movie at the time of
    writing.

Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier this year and also received terrible reviews
    — holds a higher score with a C+.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31 percent and a critic score of 33 percent.

The sequel is projected to rake in less that $50 million at the domestic box
office during the entirety of opening weekend, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number has since
    drastically dropped.

The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both critics and audiences – and won the Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International Film

Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of the Joker (Arthur Fleck)
    – and the film garnered an additional Academy Award for Best Original Score.

The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month

However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday – and shared their opinions on the sequel, which features musical sequences.

US seeking ways to engage with Syrian rebel leaders now in charge

    By Maya Gebeily, Michelle Nichols

    DAMASCUS/NEW YORK, Dec 10 (Reuters) –

An Israeli military incursion into Syria has reached about 25 km (16 miles) southwest of Damascus, Syrian security
sources said on Tuesday, after Israel seized a
buffer zone in southern Syria and launched air strikes on Syrian army and air bases overnight.

Israel’s military operation into Syria comes two days after the lightning overthrow of

    President Bashar al-Assad

by a rebel alliance left Syrians, regional countries and world powers nervous about what comes next.

A Syrian security source said Israeli troops reached Qatana, which is 10 km (six miles) into
Syrian territory east of a demilitarised zone separating Israeli-occupied Golan Heights from Syria.

    The Israeli military declined comment.

Israel has said it will not become involved in conflict in Syria and that its seizure of
the buffer zone was a defensive move.

Egypt, Qatar and Saudi Arabia have condemned the incursion. Saudi Arabia said the move would “ruin Syria’s chances of restoring security”.

Regional security sources and officers within the now fallen Syrian army said heavy Israeli airstrikes continued against military installations and airbases across Syria
overnight, destroying dozens of helicopters and jets, as well as
Republican Guard assets in and around Damascus.

The rough tally of 200 raids had left nothing of the Syrian army’s assets, they said.
Israel said its airstrikes would carry on for days but told the
U.N. Security Council that it was not intervening in Syria’s conflict.
It said it had taken “limited and temporary measures” solely to
protect its security. The United Nations Security Council
met behind closed doors late on Monday, and diplomats said they were still in shock at how quickly Assad’s overthrow unfolded
over 12 days, after a 13-year civil war that was locked in stalemate for years.

“Everyone was taken by surprise, everyone, including the members of the council. So we have to wait and see and watch … and evaluate how the situation will develop,” Russian U.N.
    Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia told reporters
    after the body met.

Russia played a major role in supporting
Assad’s government and helping it fight the rebels.

The Syrian leader fled Damascus for Moscow on Sunday, ending more than 50 years of brutal rule by his family.

With the mood in Damascus still celebratory, Assad’s prime minister, Mohammed Jalali, on Monday agreed to hand power to the rebel-led Salvation Government, an administration based in rebel-held territory in northwest Syria.

HOLLOWED OUT The main rebel commander Ahmed al-Sharaa, better known as Abu Mohammed
al-Golani, met with Jalali and Vice President Faisal
Mekdad to discuss the transitional government, a source familiar with the
discussions told Reuters. Jalali said the handover could take
    days to carry out.

Al Jazeera television reported the transitional authority would be headed by Mohamed al-Bashir, who has headed the Salvation Government.
The steamroller advance of the militia alliance headed by
Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a former al-Qaeda affiliate,
was a generational turning point for the Middle East.

The civil war that began in 2011 killed hundreds of thousands, caused one of the biggest refugee
crises of modern times and left cities bombed to rubble, countryside depopulated and the economy hollowed
    out by global sanctions.

But the rebel alliance has not communicated plans for Syria’s future, and there is no template for such a transition in the fractious region.

Oil prices rose more than 1% on Monday, partly on concerns that instability in Syria,
which is not a major oil producer, could raise regional tensions, analysts said.

“This is an incredible moment for the Syrian people,” Deputy U.S.

Ambassador to the U.N. Robert Wood said in New York.
“We’re really focused right now on trying to see where the situation goes. Can there be a governing authority in Syria that respects the rights and dignities of the Syrian population?” The U.S.
was seeking ways to engage with Syrian rebel groups and is reaching out to partners in the
region such as Turkey to start informal diplomacy, Washington said.

Qatari diplomats spoke with HTS on Monday, an official briefed on the
developments told Reuters, as regional states race to
open contact with the group. There were tentative signs
of a return to order. Syria’s banks will reopen on Tuesday,
and the oil ministry called on all employees in the sector to head to work on Tuesday, adding
that protection would be provided to ensure their safety.

Reuters reporters saw four mini-buses arriving at the Central Bank of Syria, with
employees disembarking and walking into the
building for their first day of work since Assad´s fall.

    “It´s a new shift, it´s a new day, a new year, a new life,” said Sumayra al-Mukli.

Golani has vowed to rebuild Syria, and HTS has spent years trying to soften its image to reassure foreign nations and
    minority groups within Syria.

But fears of reprisals remained. HTS said it will not hesitate to hold security and army officers involved in torturing
the Syrian people accountable, describing them as criminals and murderers.

“We will release a list that includes the names of the most senior officials involved in the torturing of the Syrian people,” Golani said in a statement.
“Rewards will be offered to those who will provide information about senior army and security officers involved in war crimes.”

HTS is designated as a terrorist organisation by many states and the
U.N., and its governing credentials are uncertain.

“Syrians are looking forward to establishing a state of freedom, equality, rule of law, democracy, and we will join efforts to rebuild our country, to rebuild what was destroyed, and to rebuild the future, better future of Syria,” Syria’s U.N.
    Ambassador Koussay Aldahhak told reporters.

  18. Red takes center stage as the hottest color of
    the holiday season.

All red looks have been trending with the fashion set for some
time, but after Rihanna attended the Fenty Hair launch party in a monochromatic
look accessorized with multiple ruby baubles, red-on-red became cooler than ever.

The ‘Stay’ hitmaker donned a custom red leather Khaite jacket and skirt
with ruby and diamond jewelry by Sabyasachi, David Webb and Reza.

Monochromatic outfits, particularly in red, exude confidence
    and sophistication.

With the vibrant color being synonymous with the holiday
season, it’s a natural choice for parties and festive gatherings.

By also accessorizing with ruby jewelry (à la Rihanna) you can add a touch of luxury to even the simplest of separates.

Unlike your grandmother’s precious jewels, today’s ruby designs
are being reimagined by edgy jewelers that aren’t taking the
    gem so seriously.

Rubies are often referred to as the ‘king of gemstones’ and their vibrant color
    – caused by the presence of chromium – is often associated with passion, love, and power.

The name ‘ruby’ comes from the Latin word ‘ruber’ which
    means red.

Rubies are incredibly sought after for their beauty and durability, they are ranked 9 on the
Mohs scale of hardness (qualitative scale that measures the relative hardness of minerals and other materials by their resistance
    to scratching), second to diamonds.

Beyond their sparkle and strength, they have held cultural significance
    for centuries.

Throughout history, rubies have been associated with nobility and wealth, often adorning the crowns of kings
and queens. They are also believed to bring good fortune and protection to their wearer.

According to Melee the Show founders Lauren Wolf and Rebecca Overmann,
ruby jewelry is on the rise.

The fine jewelry trade show connects buyers and designers, with the next shows taking place in New York (February
    1-3) and Tucson (February 5-7).

‘From bold gemstones to intricate craftsmanship, our designers bring rubies to life in ways that inspire and captivate,’
    said the duo.

Anthony Lent, Fannie Thomas, Heather Guidero, Jake Matluck, Amali, Karin Jacobson, Marian Maurer
and Ciara Bowles are some of the exhibiting designers who work with rubies.

    FDA acknowledges receiving campaigners’ letter

    By Emma Rumney

LONDON, July 16 (Reuters) – Health campaigners have written to U.S.
regulators accusing Philip Morris International of
misrepresenting past regulatory decisions, seeking to disrupt the launch of its flagship heated tobacco device
    IQOS in the United States.

The world’s biggest tobacco company by market value has spent
billions of dollars developing the product, which investors see as key to driving
future growth. But it needs permission from
the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to sell it in the world’s second
    largest tobacco market by revenue.

Six anti-tobacco and health groups, including the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Lung Association,
wrote to the FDA to oppose IQOS-related applications PMI has submitted to the agency.

“PMI has repeatedly made misleading and deceptive statements wrongly suggesting that the FDA has found that IQOS reduces the risk of disease,” the
letter, dated June 27 and reviewed by Reuters, said.

The campaign groups allege that PMI violated the FDA’s orders by
suggesting IQOS offered lower risks than cigarettes. Their letter cited four
examples of such statements in the United States, the Philippines, Mexico and Kazakhstan.

They also said in the letter that upcoming independent studies contradict
PMI’s findings about how many IQOS users completely switch to the device from cigarettes.

Presentations on the studies from the International
Tobacco Control Project (ITC) at Canada’s University of Waterloo are attached to the
    letter as exhibits.

They show the ITC found a far lower rate of IQOS users
had quit smoking in Japan and Korea than estimates from PMI.

These factors “directly bear on whether PMI should be permitted to market IQOS” in the United States, the campaigners’ letter said.

The contents of the letter have not been previously
    reported.

Asked by Reuters to respond to the letter,
a PMI spokesperson said the company was proud to discuss
    the FDA’s conclusions on IQOS.

The spokesperson did not address each example but said some of the language
flagged by campaigners was, in the company’s view, compatible with the FDA’s orders.

“Wherever we discuss our science and our products, we do so in accordance with all applicable laws,” the spokesperson said.

Reuters could not determine whether the campaigners’
letter would change the FDA’s approach to IQOS. The agency said
it had received the letter and would respond directly to the senders.
    It did not comment further.

Devices like IQOS heat up sticks of ground tobacco without burning them in an attempt to avoid the
    harmful chemicals released via combustion.

The FDA first authorised PMI to sell an older version of
IQOS in 2019. It subsequently authorised the company to market it as offering reduced exposure to harmful
chemicals versus cigarettes for smokers who completely switch – known as an “exposure modification order”.

The FDA can also issue a “risk modification order”, authorising a company to claim its product
reduces the risk of tobacco-related harm and disease.
But this is harder to prove, especially without long-term,
    epidemiological studies.

The FDA rejected PMI’s previous application to say its older IQOS device results in reduced health risks, saying there wasn’t sufficient evidence to support this.

PMI applied in 2023 to renew its existing exposure modification orders.
Later that year, it also applied to sell and market a newer version of
the IQOS device in the same way. The FDA has yet to
    decide on these applications.

Marketing the product as having health benefits compared to
traditional cigarettes could help PMI persuade consumers
to switch as well as afford it tax benefits versus
    cigarettes in some U.S. states.

    SWITCH RATES

The campaign groups also cited preliminary data from ITC studies in Japan and Korea, saying it
contradicted PMI’s findings about how many IQOS users completely switch from cigarettes.

The studies have been presented at academic conferences but have not yet been submitted for publication in a journal, ITC researchers told Reuters.
As a result, study abstracts have been peer
reviewed but the full findings have yet to go through that process.

Japan is IQOS’ largest market and the introduction of
heated tobacco there coincided with an accelerated decline in cigarette sales.

PMI estimates more than seven out of 10 of its registered IQOS customers globally have quit cigarettes.
A 2023 PMI application to the FDA emphasised that the majority of
IQOS users were using IQOS exclusively.

However, the ITC’s researchers put the percentage of
all IQOS users that had quit smoking at just 15% in Japan and 30% in Korea in 2021.

Users most commonly used IQOS and cigarettes simultaneously, known as “dual use”, often leading to an overall increase in tobacco consumption, the ITC
    researchers found.

PMI pointed to a 2019 Japanese government health survey, where 75% of respondents who reported using heated tobacco said they did not smoke.

However, a paper published this year, led by researchers from Georgetown University, highlighted flaws in the government’s survey, including changes
to the question format that can lead to under-reporting of smoking.

Other surveys have also found higher rates of dual use than the government, it said.
